Mary Isabelle (Belle) Welker was the daughter of Paul Welker, an early settler of Ankneytown. His wife was Christina Ankney. Belle married Israel Hess 7 Nov 1871 in Knox Co OH. They had 3 children - Walter Hess, Neva Belle Hess and James Hess. The family migrated from Berlin Township Knox Co OH to Howard, Ohio when the children were small. Israel dies when he was only 47 years old. Belle remarried to John Sylvester Wilkinson 27 Aug 1896 in Knox Co OH. She died at the home of her son, Walter Hess (Mt Vernon OH), Sunday morning at 10 o'clock Feb 26 1928, following a year's illness of heart trouble. She was 79 years of age and was survived by 2 children Walter Hess of Mt Vernon and Neva Humbert of Howard; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at home with the Rev James Hunt officiating. In her will she left $600 dollars to Nina May Laughrey (granddaughter), to Dorothy Hess $200 (granddaughter) and the balance of the estate was to be equally divided between Walter Hess and Neva Humbert, her children.
