Edward Alonzo was the son of Charles Patty and Adeline Mecum. He was the step son of Sarah Jane Marks Patty who his father married when Edward was 7 years old. Father Charles died during the Civil War in a field hospital in Rome Georgia during the march on Atlanta with Gen Sherman in 1864. Edward continued living with his step mother until he was 24 years old.
Edward married Martha Brown in 1876. They were the parents of one son, Charles Ellsberry and two daughters, Elva and Josephine.
