Lawrence Joseph Rusting was born on 29 Sep 1900 to Frank Christian and Bernardina "Dena" Mary Kirchoff Rusting in Zell, Spring Co., South Dakota. He was the eight of twelve children. The family moved to Santa Rosa, Califronia around 1905 and to Oakland, California following the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906.

He married in 1927 Lillian Florence Regan, the daughter of William and Catherine Riley Regan. They had two children, Jean Francis and Richard Lawrence.

Funeral Notice from the San Francisco Examiner, Sunday, Aug. 31, 1958, Sec 1, pg 21:

"RUSTING-In this city, Aug. 29, 1958, Lawrence J. Rusting, dearly beloved husband of Lillian F. Rusting, loving father of Mrs. Jean Wiessgerber and Richard Rusting, dear son the late Joseph (Should read as Frank) and Bernardine Rusting, devoted brother of John, Frank, and Tony Rusting, Mrs. Mary Knoll, Mrs. Rose Orge (Should Read as Orey), Mrs. Margaret Zieger, Sister Mary Vincencia, O.P., and Sister Mary Anthony, O.P., and the later Joseph Rusting, Mrs. Clara Liening and Siter Mary Benigna, beloved grandfather of Cindy Weissgerber; a member of F.O.E., Coma-Vista Grande Aerie No. 1848.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral Tuesday, September 2nd, at 9 a. m. from the Mortuary of W. C. LASSWELL & CO. 6154 Mission St., cor. Wilson: thence to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where a Requiem Mass will be offered commencing at 9:30 a. m. Internment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Monday. F.O.E. services at 7:45 P. M. Monday."
