He served his country during WWII as a member of the US Army Air Corps. After his discharge on December 31, 1945 he worked for Moore Beverage, Jahnke Beverage and Birdseye Dairy, retiring in 1982. After retiring he volunteered at Curative Workshop and Sheltered Industries for over 20 years. He was a longtime member of St. Bernard Parish in Green Bay. He loved fishing, playing cards, traveling, doing beautiful woodworking, going out to eat, and most of all spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by four children, Linda (Richard) Abraham, Julie (Gary) Franke, Steve (Edie) Thiry, Terri Ropson and daughter in law Mary Thiry; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, brother Dean (Verna) Thiry, brother in law Russell (Mercedes) Dhuey, sisters in law Emily Laurent, Carol (Ronald) De Villers, Dorothy Dhuey, and Elsie Dhuey, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Loretta, son Dennis Thiry, one infant son, brothers and sisters, Frank (Evelyn) Thiry, Rita (Joe) Havel, Lawrence (Marcella) Thiry, Florence (Robert) Abts.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 East Mason Street, Monday from 4-8 pm. Parish Prayer Service at 7 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at St. Bernard Catholic Parish, 2040 Hillside Drive, Tuesday from 10-11 am. Mass of Christian Burial at the church at 11:00 am with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating. Entombment at Allouez Catholic Chapel and Mausoleum.
