"On April 21, 1944, Staff Sergeant Cornelius W. "Neil" Robinson was killed in a practice mission in England where he was the waist gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, #42-30091, nicknamed the "Blivit." He was stationed at Thorpe Abbotts Field with the 349th Bombardment Squadron, 100th Bombardment Group, and had arrived just ten days earlier. The plane, piloted by Lt. Myron D. Richmond, crash landed at Eye Airfield in Suffolk, England after an unsuccessful attempt to join its formation, and all ten crew members were killed.
