Who's Who Among West Chester Lions

Jim Boals, or James L. Boals, Jr., to some, was born in Philadelphia in the troublesome year of 1893. He was educated in Philadelphia Schools and before coming to West Chester was for ten years chief clerk of the Ford Motor Company at Broad & Lehigh. Since taking over the Ford Agency, here, he has completed a fine show-room and shop on East Gay Street which adds greatly to that part of our business section. He is secretary of the West Chester Automotive Dealer's Association, a member of the Masonic Order, Tall Cedars and Y.M.C.A. He has one child, James L., 3rd, nine years old.

Mrs. Howard Heston, of 309 Matlack St., announced the marriage of her niece, Dorothy Huntsman Sheperd, to James L. Boals, Jr., on Saturday, Feb. 19.

The Rev. J. Garrett Kell, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated at the ceremony at the manse, 317 W. Miner St., in the presence of the immediate family.

After a short wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Boals will be at hoe at 309 N. Matlack st.

James L. Boals, Jr.

James L. Boals,Jr., 81, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of West Chester, died last Friday in Florida.

The husband of Dorothy Huntsman Boals and son of the late James and Emma MacFarland Boals, he was born in Philadelphia.

Mr. Boals was employed in the city by the Ford Motor Co. for 10 years before moving to West Chester in 1924 to operate the Ford dealership on E. Gay street. From 1948 util he retired he was a sales representative for Sellhast and Mosteller Chevrolet.

He was very active in church and civic affairs while a resident of West Chester. He served for several years on the board of deacons of the First Presbyterian Church.

He also worked with, and served on the board of the West Chester Civic Association. He was a life member of Potter Lodge 441, F and AM, of Philadelphia, was honored in 1968 for 50 years of service and was presented with a gold emblem by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, F and A.

An old Monarch Member of the West Chester Lions Club, with a perfect attendance record of more than 40 years, Mr. Boals was honored by this club in 1952 as Lion of the Year. He also served on the District Governor's Cabinet, District 14-P of Lions International in 1967-68 as zone chairman and in 1969-70 as membership chairman.

Other memberships include life member of the Masonic Ancients of Philadelphia; past grand tall cedar of the West Chester Forest 22, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; BPO Elks Lodge 853 of West Chester; Mora Club of the West Chester YMCA wher he served as chaplain.

Surviving besides his wife are his son, James L. Boals III, of West Chester and two grandsons.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be made in Green Mount Cemetery, West Chester.
