Rebecca Loudelia Blankenship Smith was the daughter of Charles Stacy "Charlie" Blankenship and Minnie Bell Cason Blankenship. She was born at the family home in Wilson County, Tennessee. Dr. Campbell delivered her for a charge of $25.00.

Loudelia was a bright woman. She attended Chrichlow Elementary School and Central High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In 1932 she graduated from Middle Tennessee State Teacher's College. After graduating she taught Home Economics at Central High School.

Loudelia married James Whitaker "Jim" Smith on July 25, 1934. The couple had three children: Rebecca Lou "Becky" Smith Davis, Margaret Catherine Smith Brandon, and Virginia Bell "Jenny" Smith Travis.

When her daughters were still very young children, she learned that she had breast cancer. As sick as she was she took the time to teach her young children how to manage the basic functions of running a house so the family could survive. When she died, she left her husband and children with the knowledge that they were deeply loved. She was greatly missed by all members of her immediate and extended family.
