Anne Ruth Fender, of Lodge, entered into her state of eternal rest on the afternoon of September 3, 2010, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Fender was born January 25, 1943, in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Edward Henry Varnadoe and the late Julia Smoak Varnadoe.

She was a retired supervisor from Smoaks Manufacturing and was a member of Carters Ford Baptist Church.

Mrs. Fender was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 165, where she was a Past Worthy Matron. For twenty years, she stood beside her husband in his role of Mayor and served the Lodge Community well as their First Lady. She will be fondly remembered for the love she possessed for her family as well as the love she shared with others.

Surviving are: her husband of fifty years, Mayor Roy Lovell Fender; three sons, Wayne Fender and wife Cynthia of Islandton, Donny Fender and wife Deanne of Smoaks, and Roy Fender and wife Patty of Lodge; three brothers, Joe Varnadoe of Lodge, Richard Varnadoe of Ehrhardt, and Thomas Varnadoe of Lodge; three sisters, Dorothy Ayers of Ehrhardt, June Varnadoe of Lodge, and Alice Kinard of Lodge; four grandchildren, Wayne Fender of Columbia, Stacey Langdale and husband Greg of Williams, Ryan Fender of Islandton, and Heather Fender of Lodge that also survive.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Varnadoe and John Varnadoe.

Interment was in Carters Ford Baptist Churchyard, Lodge.
