Jack served as a Corporal, 164th Infantry Regiment, Americal Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Gage County, Nebraska and was a member of the Nebraska National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on December 23, 1940, prior to the war, from Beatrice, Nebraska. He was noted, at that time, as being Single, without dependents.

Jack was wounded in action while fighting on Guadalcanal. He, along with 7 other soldiers, were put on C-47 #41-18573 for a medical evacuation to Efate Island, Shefa Province, Vanuatu.

C-47 #41-18573, after taking off from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands to Efate Island, Shefa Province, Vanuatu, never arrived at their destination and are assumed to have crashed at sea for an unknown reason during the war.

Jack was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.

He had been awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart prior to going missing.
