Thomas served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24H "Super Mouse" #41-28594, 719th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 3, 1943 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Stock Clerk and also as Single, with dependents.

Thomas was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, after being battle damaged on a mission over Italy, had two of it's engines fail and had to ditch at sea off Elba during the war.

Thomas' listing on the Tablet's display that he was from Pennsylvania. However he, as noted above, resided in Maryland.

Six crew members died in the crash. Four other crew members bailed out and survived.

Lt. Clarence M. Frones remains washed up on shore in March, 1944.

Thomas was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
