Donald served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24H "Super Mouse" #41-28594, 719th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Illinois prior to the war.

Donald was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, after being battle damaged on a mission over Italy, had two of it's engines fail and had to ditch at sea off Elba during the war.

Six crew members died in the crash. Four other crew members bailed out and survived.

Lt. Clarence M. Frones remains washed up on shore in March, 1944.

Donald was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
