Wellington - W. H. (Bill) Clay, 67, of the Quail community died Thursday in Hall County Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral services will be at 2p.m. today in the Quail Baptist Church, with the Rev. Vick Johnson, pastor, and Elder L.J. Crawford and Elder Elvis Pitts officiating.
Burial will be in the Quail Cemetery under the direction of Kelso Funeral Home.
Mr Clay was a farmer. He was born in Jack County, and had lived in this area since 1917. Mr. Clay was active in Farm Bureau affairs and had served as a school trustee for 25 years.
He was married to Mary Burdine, Oct. 22, 1922.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Alvie Clay of Amarillo; daughters, Mrs. Addierene French of China Lake, CA, Mrs Mildred Langley and Mrs Avyrilla White of Quail and Mrs Peggy Dawson of Amarillo; sisters, Mrs Lena Young of Lamesa, Mrs. Hassie Arnold of Tucumcari, NM, Mrs Adele Burdine of Melrose, NM, Mrs Alta Tyler of Muleshoe, Mrs Shirley O'Hair of Quail and Mrs Ola Smith of Wellington; and two brothers, Horace of Quail and Herbert of Muleshoe.

Bill Clay, 67, Prominent Quail Farmer Dies
W. H. (Bill) Clay, prominent farm and community leader living seven miles northwest of Quail, died in Hall County Memorial Hospital at 11 a.m. on
Thursday, Feb. 4, following an illness of several months. He was 67.
He had lived in that area since 1917, when he moved from Palo Pinto County.
Besides his own farming operations, Mr. Clay was active in the Donley County Farm
Bureau from the time of its organization and had served as vice president. He also was a committeeman for the county Agricultural Conservation and Stabilization Service in Donley County.
From the time his own children entered school, Mr. Clay worked for improved educational opportunities in his district and he served as a trustee for more than 25 years, first at Bray, and after its consolidation, of the Quail school.
He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Ring and had served as a deacon since 1943.
William Henry Clay was born in Jack County May 20, 1897, the son of the late T. M. and Katie Dodson Clay. He was married to Miss Mary Burdine Oct. 22, 1922 at Quail.
Funeral services for Mr. Clay were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at Quail Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Vick Johnson, pastor, Elder L. J. Crawford of Hedley and Elder Elvis Pitts of Friendship Baptist Church.
Burial was in the Quail cemetery under the direction of Kelso Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Harold White, Windoal Spier, Ross Oatman, C. D. Messer, Bill Cooke III , Lonnie Neeley, Herman Word, and Marion Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers were Chester Walker, Jim Tidwell, M. T. White, Clay Oatman, Jim Langiey, Louie Spier, Johnny Parker, Obie Hartman, Pete Messer, Bill Scales, Vernie Wade, Red Couch, Slats Debord, Robert Thomas, T. N. Crow and 0. L. Driver.
Surviving Mr. Clay are his wife; one son and four daughters: Alvie T. Clay of Amarillo; Mrs. Addierene French of China Lake, Calif.; Mrs. Mildred Langley and Mrs. Avyrilla White of Quail, and Mrs. Peggy Dawson of Amarillo.
Other survivors are six sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Lena Young of Lamesa; Mrs. Hassie Arnold of Tucuracari, N.M.; Mrs. Adelle Burdine of Melrose, N.M.; Mrs. Alta Tyler of Muleshoe; Mrs. Shirley O'Hair of Quail, and Mrs. Ola Smith of Wellington; Horace Clay of Quail and Herbert Clay Of Muleshoe. There are nine grandchildren.
