She was the daughter of the late Emil and Emma (Wetzel) Gast.

Harriet was united in marriage to Lowell Durland. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Emma Gast, Birnamwood; three brothers, Arthur Gast, Shawano, John (Jeanette) Gast, Wausau and Herbert Gast, Layton, Utah; five sisters, Lorraine Cooley, Wausau, Carol (John) Wolf, Shawano, Frances (Arnold) Maas, Wisconsin Rapids, Elsie (William) Zerneke, Birnamwood and Ann (Irvin) Keldsen, Richfield, MN.

In addition to her husband an parents, Harriet was preceded in death by one sister, Alvina Bell and two brothers, Fred and August "Jake" Gast.
