Maria was the 8th child and youngest daughter of John & Sally Tallman.
She became a teacher like her older sister's Charlotte & Ruth, meeting her husband a veteran of the 22nd New York Cavalry, Co 'M' while both were in Genesee College. Married in Rochester Nov 7, 1867. He was hired as a School Principal and she a teacher in Port Byron, NY and later in St. Louis. While in St. Louis he went back to college at Washington University and earned his law degree in 1873. Their son Leon was born in St. Louis, however their marriage would end in divorce in 1882. Leon would go on to college at Allegheny in Meadville, PA graduating in 1892 where Maria would move to by 1896. There she would remain until the last few weeks of her life which were spent under the care of her sister Ruth in Jamestown, NY. Maria is buried in front of her son Leon.
