Leonard Paul Diede, 77, died Sept. 27, 2004, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Bismarck Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors by the VFW Post 1326 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services.

Leonard, the son of Henry and Anne (Miller) Diede, was born Dec. 22, 1926, and grew up near Baldwin, where he attended school. He married Elsie Pauline Wahl Oct. 26, 1950, in Bismarck. Leonard and Elsie raised a family of six and farmed for nearly 45 years at Wilton. He served in the army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1956. He was active in the VFW and the American Legion. He took interest in local and state government. Leonard took pride in the family farm and received the North Dakota Soil Conservation Achievement Award.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Elsie; his children, Linda Olheiser, Dickinson, Mark Diede, Corona, Calif., Valerie (Jeff) Licha, Columbia, S.C., Jennifer (Paul) Feist, Valley City, Perry (Doreen) Diede, Rochester, Minn., and Sandi (Randy) Rengstorf, Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Alfred Diede, Gustas Diede, and Henry Diede, all of Bismarck; three sisters, Ann Herman, Ester Zeiszler, and Hilda Wahl, all of Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Leonard was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Anne Diede; and two sisters, Clara Fursenberg, Tomah, Wis., and Amelia Fischer, Mandan. (Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck).
