Walter served in the US Army in Europe during World War-II (from the Normandy invasion to the Battle of the Bulge). Walter went on to a career as a barber. From his obit (Colorado Springs Gazette): "He was an avid fisherman and he closely followed his children's athletic activities, especially hockey. He had lived in Colorado Springs from 1960 to 1993, when he moved to Denver." Walter died 26 August 1997 in Denver, CO at age 80.
