HEROD CEMETERY
(also DANIEL McCARTY HEROD, SR. CEMETERY) GRAPELAND AREA
On Farm to Market Road #1272, 3 miles NW of Grapeland; opposite Parker Cemetery turn west, cross Cleon Salmon's cattle-guard; 1/2 mile down lane to cemetery.
Daniel McCarty Herod came to Texas, 1849, and purchased 1107 acres of land 2 1/2miles NW of Grapeland.
In 1863 a 13 year old child was buried near Herod's home;
Other graves were added, 21 in all,
the last being that of Ace Pelham, son-in-law of Daniel M. Herod.
One grave is unmarked, all are family members.
Above information was taken from the survey report of Mrs. Wayne Collins for the 1978 cemeteries book.
Mr. Herman Herod reports there have been no changes since that time.
