A resident of Madison County for half a century, Harold N. German, 58, died Saturday, December 13, 1975 at Pleasant Hill Nursing Center in Des Moines. He was born July 9, 1917 in Hopeville, Iowa.

The son of Sylvester German and Almeda Vanatta, Mr. German was a veteran of World War II during which time he served in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans Of Foreign Wars.

Mr. German was employed by the Bell Telephone Company for 30 years and was also a storekeeper. He lived in Madison County for 50 years and moved to Des Moines in 1967.

The marriage of Harold German to Mildred Lyon took place on Jan. 5, 1947 in Grant City, Missouri.

Surviving Mr. German is his wife, Mildred, two daughters, Mrs. Timothy (Maureen) Hildreth and Mrs. Charles (Judy) Meline, both of Des Moines; two sons, Dale Lyon of Austin, Texas (Chief Master Sargent in the Air Force) and Robert, of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren.

Mr. German was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services for Harold German were conducted Tuesday, December 16, 1975 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, the Rev. Peter Bergen of Des Moines presiding.

Burial was made in the St. Charles Cemetery with V.F.W. military graveside services.
