Son of Andrew German and Patience Elizabeth Batson/Betson.

Husband of Almeda A. "Meda" Vanatta[later Baughman].

Their children were Ethel Alice German, Clarence O. German, Thelma Mabel German, Harold German and Othal German.

Ethel and Clarence are buried beside them.

1900 census lists as Vearl German.

Sylvester German, a well-known resident of Madison county of many years, died at the Peterson Nursing home in Winterset last Wednesday, Aug. 11. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. German was a native of Peoria, Ill., where he was born Dec. 27, 1867, the son of Andrew and Patience German. When he was a small boy he came to Iowa with his parents.

He was married Feb. 2, 1898, to Almeda Vannatta. They were the parents of five children, two of them, Ethel and Eithel, preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. German came to Winterset about 12 years ago, and this had been their home since then

Surviving are his wife; and three children, Harold and Clarence German, both of Winterset, and Mrs. Mabel Andersen, of St. Charles. He also leaves two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Wilbur and Irvin German of Hopeville.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Richards funeral home here, in charge of the Rev. Donald Worden of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial was made in the cemetery at Hopeville.
