George Burton Allred Lehi, Utah
Our loved husband, father and Grampy "graduated" Jan. 16, 2008 at his home in Lehi, UT. His family was at his bedside to bid him adios. Born 93 years ago in Wallsburg, UT, of goodly parents, Franklin M. Allred and Polly A. Bigelow. George grew up in this small farming community, the second to the last son. George was preceded in death by his mother and father, four sisters and four brothers. He attended school in Wallsburg, Heber City and Stockton, Ca. In addition to the usual academic studies, George was a member of his high school band, orchestra, glee club and the Heber City Orchestra, playing the cornet. He continued playing horn with several small bands and liked to reminisce about his gigs in the San Joaquin County, Calif. area. George and Thelma Rose Schlegel were married in her parents, Otto and Mary Schlegel's, Stockton home Dec. 16, 1938; their union was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Four children include: Christine, Carol, Bob (Syd) and Laurie (Rob Felt). Grandchildren include David, Steve (Jill) and John (LaLena) Carson, Katie (Mike Parry) and Rob M. Allred. There are five great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and a great-great-granddaughter. Thelma and all the family will miss him dearly. An astute businessman, George and oldest brother Frank founded Allred's Inc. a wholesale HVAC supply house in 1949. He was vice president, president and then chairman of the board until a few years ago. Allred's conducts business in Utah and surrounding states guided by the second and third generation of George's family. A wonderful legacy! A faithful member of the LDS Church, George served in many ways, including ward bishoprics and stake high councils. He was much involved in the Utah Arabian Horse Association management as well as riding, showing and breeding Arabian Horses. He enjoyed farming, gardening, raising sheep, hunting and fly fishing. In his early 70's he took up skiing, coming in his Murray office with his gear, looking for a companion to go up Big or Little Cottonwood Canyon for a high level conference. Sport cars were an avid interest. George drove a classic Mustang, a cream colored Jaguar, several Porsche models and a Mercedes Benz over the years. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi Cedar Hollow Chapel, 1020 East 1900 North. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main. There will be no viewing Monday prior to the funeral at the church. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery. Online guestbook at wingmortuary.com In lieu of flowers please send donations to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund or a favorite charity. Family extends heart thanks to the Comfort Care Hospice Organization whose staff provided constant, loving care during George's final weeks.
