JESSE D. HAMMOND
ADDISON - Jesse D. Hammond, 56, of 107 Front Street died unexpectedly Sunday at 12:30 a.m. at the New York Central Railroad Yards in Corning where he was employed as a switchman. He was taken to Corning Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Mr. Hammond had just gone to work about an hour before his death which was attributed to a heart ailment.
Mr. Hammond was born March 22, 1902 in Hornby, a son of the late William and Luella Herrington Hammond. On Dec. 22, 1939 he married Luetta Lehman in Palmyra. He was a member of the Moose and of the Railroad Brotherhood of Trainmen.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sylvia and a son Jesse, Jr. at home; two step-daughters, Mrs. Delores Oakley of Addison and Mrs. Wilma Bethcher of Campbell; two brothers William and Edward Hammond of Palmyra three sisters, Mrs. Clara Ribble Painted Post; Mrs. Jenny Smith, Beaver Dams and Mrs Luella O'Neal of Palmyra; also three step-children and several nieces and nephews.
The body is at the Ackerson Funeral Home on Wall Street where friends may call this afternoon from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 this evening. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Carl A. Reppert pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Addison Rural Cemetery.
