BODY FOUND IN CANAL
aged veteran falls overboard in canal at Peacock's lock, and his body is recovered a week later.
The body of Seyler, aged 79 years, was found the Schuylkill canal, at Peacock's lock, two milesnorth of Tuckerton, on Tuesday morning. Mr. Seyler, who had been living with his son-in-law, George Weaver, near Peacock's lock, was missing about two weeks. He left home to visit his daughter at Pricetown and also to have his pension papers attended to. When he failed to return after several days his son-in-law became greatly worried and search was instituted for the missing man, the result being the finding of his body in the canal. Previous to moving to Peacock's lock, Mr. Seyler lived at Pricetown. His wife died over a year ago. He then came to Reading and remained here for a time, but last fall took up his residence with his son-in-law, Mr. Weaver.
The surviving children are: Henry, Jacob, James, Adam, William and Emma, wife of Wilson Wentzell of this city: Clayton, of Harrisburg: Clara, wife of William Wieder, Lobachsville, and Mary, wife of George Weaver.
Coroner A. N. Seidel was notified of the case and he at once proceeded to Peacock's lock where he empanelled jury and held an inquest. The inference is that Mr. Seyler, in crossing the lock over a narrow footbridge, at night, lost his footing and fell into the water. The jury rendered a verdict of drowning.
