CHARLES WILLIAM FISHER was born in Hannibal, Missouri to William and Minnie Fisher. He was a self-made man and he worked very hard throughout his life to accomplish many things.

He was educated in Kansas City at the Benton Elementary School where he first met fellow classmate Walt Disney, and they remained very close lifetime friends! Charlie also met Walt's older brothers Roy Oliver Disney and Raymond Arnold Disney. Charlie also remained close friends to the Disney brothers for the rest of his life.

Charlie served in the Army Ambulance Corp in WWI in France in 1919 and his boyhood friend Walt Disney served at the same time and was in the same division where Charlie served!

At age five, tragically, he witnessed his father being killed by a train. At that point in his young life, he began selling newspapers and he always turned over his small income to his mother.

His family included brothers Earl, Roy and sister Nathaline. He was a business partner with his brother Roy. He also attended the Kansas City Manual Training School where he learned to use his hands to build and remodel homes.

Charlie met and married Meredith Alvah Boyington (Disney). He had one son James C. Fisher. His daughter-in-law was Phyllis Ann Fisher and his two grandchildren were Jeff James Fisher and Jennifer Ann Fisher. Charles' step-son was C. E. Disney who was the son of Raymond and Meredith Disney. Following Charles' passing in 1967, Meredith Alvah remarried her first husband who was Raymond A. Disney in 1971.

Early in life, he managed the Foreman & Clark Clothing Store in downtown Kansas City. Charles was then named the Division Manager for Bond Clothing Stores in the Midwest where he continued for over 30 years. His office was in the Bond Clothing Store at 1009 Main Street in the heart of downtown Kansas City, MO and his regional territory included several midwestern states.

He was a member of Central Methodist Church and prior to that Paseo Methodist Church where he was a very close friend to Pastor Rev. Edward W. Potts who was also the Ararat Shrine's Chaplain. Charlie Fisher was an active Mason and Shriner. He was appointed to the Ararat Temple Divan by Illustrious Potentate Frank S. Allison in 1945 and he was installed as the Illustrious Potentate of Ararat Shrine Shrine in 1952 where he led and grew and expanded the membership quite successfully.

Throughout his year as Potentate, he grew the Shrine membership to a record level! When he was Ararat's Potentate, he appointed William J. Tobler and Fred Bellemere, Jr. to the Divan. He believed and often stated: "If everyone would live by the teachings of the Masonic Orders, this would be a better world for everyone!"

He and his wife Alvah spent much time with the various Ararat Shrine activities including raising funds for the Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children (now called the Shriner's Hospitals for Children) and promoting and selling tickets for the annual Ararat Shrine Circus! He stepped forth and was the first Shrine leader to actively raise funds for the first building ever owned for the Mother Chapter of the Order of DeMolay at 42nd & Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Charlie was a very close friend to Frank S. Land, the founder of the International Order of DeMolay and a Past Potentate from Ararat Temple and also a Past Imperial Potentate for the Shriner's.

He was also an active member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 54 where he became the Court Director and Impresario. For over 35 years Charlie met each Friday at noon for lunch and fun at the Hotel President with his Jester friends where "Mirth was King." His very close Jester friends, among many others, included George W. Ryan, Sr. and Dr. Ray Evans and Frank Newcomer, Sr & Jr and Robert C. Greenlease, Sr.

Charles served on the City Council in Kansas City, MO from 1959 to 1963 where he chaired the important fire and water departments. He was a close friend to then Mayor H. Roe Bartle and he worked with Bartle and Lamar Hunt to secure the Kansas City Chiefs Football team and he was a close friend to Charlie Finley where he worked to secure Major League Baseball for Kansas City!

He was always a great example to his family and many, many friends. He had a keen and kind sense of humor and his willingness to help anyone was so obvious throughout his life.

Charlie loved to fish and he had access to many ponds and lakes in and surrounding Kansas City. His close friend A. J. Stephens granted him lifetime access to his famous Basswood Springs Lodge where Charlie landed many large mouth bass! There is a rather famous picture of Charlie fishing in his business suit at Basswood Springs when he had just landed a huge large mouth bass! Another close friend was Robert "Bob" Duden who granted him access to his many lakes on his large 500 acre farm north of Kansas City.

Charlie Fisher vacationed in Minnesota for over forty years where fishing was the call of each day and he enjoyed the company of many family and friends who would trek very far back into the Minnesota woods to hidden lakes where the fish were so plentiful as well as the mosquitoes!! This was always such an important part of his life--his times spent in Minnesota! His good close friends Dr. Ralph and Joyce Peck and Irwin and Ollie Pederson and Harry and Hilda Bauer in Crosslake, MN were always so happy to greet and spend time with Charlie and his family for many, many years!

He always encouraged young people to work hard and to strive to do their best throughout their lives. He hired so many young people in his stores and he opened many opportunities for people he employed.

Charlie really had a passion and soft heart for stray dogs and cats. He would go out of his way to find homes for stray animals, often taking them into his own home! He once found an injured coyote, nursed it back to health, and gave it to a wild animal farm where it was returned to the wild.

Very sadly and suddenly, Charlie suffered a fatal heart attack on April 7, 1967 inside the Bond's Clothing Blue Ridge Store in Kansas City, MO. He will always be remembered for his charity and goodwill and his good sense. Among other things, Charlie is remembered for his huge fundraising efforts in behalf of the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, something he always encouraged his family and many friends to embrace!

"May Charlie Fisher rest in Peace with Christ and all of God's Saints." Amen.
