On the 13th day of Oct. 1904, death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Ellis, on Elk Creek, and claimed for his victim little Harry Ray Ellis, aged 3 years, 6 months and 15 days. For six long weeks he had been such a patient little sufferer, and we hoped he was getting better, but at 4 o'clock on the evening of the 13th, he seemed to grow suddenly worse, and at 8 o'clock his spirit took its flight to the God who gave it. He never for a moment seemed to lose consciousness and continued to call for his papa to do something for him till his sweet little voice was stilled forever. Never were parents, sisters and brother more devoted in caring for him during his sickness, and it seemed that everything was done for him that could be done, but all to no avail. God had called for him and he must go.
The funeral was preached by Rev. Fitzgerald to a large congregation of sorrowing friends. It was indeed touching to every heart to witness the grief of this bereaved family at parting with little Harry. It seems so hard that we are never to see his bright little face or hear his dear little voice again; he who was once so full of life and looked the picture of perfect health. But weep not, dear friends, for your sad loss is his eternal gain. When you feel like giving way to the pangs of grief, remember that it was the work of an All wise Providence, and His ways, though they may seem hard to us, are the best, and that He called your little darling unto His bosom who hath said: Suffer little children to come unto me for such is the kingdom of Heaven. His little body was laid to rest at Chapel Hill church near the family home. Little Harry we have laid thee in the peaceful grave's embrace; But thy memory shall be cherished till we see thy Heavenly face.
