"Rev. James S. Ellis passed away Saturday, January 14, 1933, at his home near Stultz, on Elk Creek, in Cass township, Texas county, Missouri at the age of 70y 7m 4d of apoplexy. His funeral was handled by A. Richardson, a Cabool, Missouri undertaker. He was married to Anna Ellis and a farmer at the time of his death.
About nine years before his death (1923-?), Rev. James S. Ellis suffered a stroke of paralysis, which was followed by other strokes, and for his last five years he was confined to his home.
He was the son of Franklin S. Ellis, a pioneer Baptist minister of Texas county. James S. Ellis was church clerk and leader of church activities at Chapel Hill Baptist church, but several years ago changed his membership to Freedom Baptist church where was ordained as a minister of the gospel.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna V. Ellis (formerly Allsman), seven children, other relatives and a host of friends, for Rev. Ellis was well known throughout the county and was recognized as a sincere and faithful servant of his Lord, a good citizen and a useful honorable man.
Funeral services were conducted at Chapel Hill church Sunday afternoon by Rev. E. F. Maness, pastor of Cabool Baptist church, and interment in Chapel Hill cemetery.
The Houston Herald joins many friends in sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones."
