Boals-Markley
One of the first of summer weddings took place in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Saturday afternoon, at one-thirty o'clock when Helen Caroline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arundel Markley, of West Chester Gardens, became the bride of James Lasalle Boals, 3rd, son of James L. Boals, Jr., 417 Price Street. The single ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Robert B. Boell, pastor, in the presence of relatives and many friends.
The bride, a graduate of West Chester High School and State Teachers College, is a teacher in the public schools in Malvern. A graduate of the local high school, the bridegroom was in the U.S. Army for three years, serving 19 months overseas in the Office of Strategic Services. He plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania. beginning July 1st.

Helen Caroline Markley Boals of Willow Valley
Helen Caroline Markley Boals, 93, of Willow Valley Manor North, Lancaster, Pa., died Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
Daughter of Arundel and Caroline Markley of West Chester, Pa., her American ancestry predates the Revolutionary War through the Arundel, Brook, and Markley families.
Widow of James LaSalle Boals III, Helen was valedictorian of her class of 1936 in West Goshen Township Public School.
She was a graduate of West Chester High School (1940), and West Chester Teachers College (1944) with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught in the Malvern Elementary School for four years before becoming a loving mother and homemaker.
In the mid 1960s, she resumed her career as a teacher’s aide, assisting children with special needs in the Chester County Intermediate Unit at Downingtown, and she retired in 1979.
Her many volunteer activities included: Den Mother in the Cub Scouts; visiting shut-ins for the Chester County Board of Public Assistance; West Chester Bring and Buy gift shop; American Cancer Society of Chester County; and Chester County Hospital.
She was a member of the New Century Club of West Chester, a Life Member of the Chester County Hospital Foundation, member of the Chester County Historical Society, and former member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of West Chester where she sang in the choir.
Helen is survived by her sons Stephen and Gregory, of New York and Florida respectively, who were both with her the day she died.
In nursing care at Willow Valley for Alzheimer’s disease, she maintained her sense of humor, sweet disposition, and cheerful spirit. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Services will be private. Donations may be made to Willow Valley Fellowship Fund, the Chester County Hospital, or the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
