Elizabeth Short (139964012)
Franklin Democrat, Friday, 12 November 1909, pg 5
Elizabeth Woods was born in Mercer County, Ky., Oct. 13th 1829, and died in Nineveh, Ind, Nov 5th, 1909, aged eighty years and twenty-two days.
She was married Nov. 19th, 1848 to James J. Short, by Dr. Thomas Cleland. To this union ten children were born, four of whom preceded their mother to the better land. The remaining six are here today to mourn the loss of a kind and faithful mother.
She and her husband resided in Mercer county, Ky., until Oct. 1852, when they moved to Johnson county, Ind. Her husband died April 4th, 1897.
She united with the Presbyterian church at Whiteland, Ind, in 1879 and in 1881 moved her membership to Franklin, Ind, where she has held continued membership ever since.
She has been an invalid for the past eleven years, previous to this time no neighbor or friend ever called on her for help, no matter how great, but she willingly and cheerfully rendered them every service in her power. She bore her affliction with patience as becomes a Christian, but on account of her crippled condition was denied the privileges of the sanctuary.
Beside her six children she leaves eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one brother, six half-brothers and two half-sisters.
Her last sickness was of only two weeks duration and was borne with the same spirit which characterized her life. She seemingly had grave doubts as to her recovery when speaking as to future events.
On Oct. 20th, her minister, Bro. Tyler, from Franklin, with other friends came and held a service at her bedside which she greatly appreciated, and her conversation at this time was such as to assure them that she felt her heavenly home was not only sure, but not far away, telling them in the language of King David, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want."
She will be missed not only by her loved ones, but by all her friends and neighbors who loved her for her gentle kindness and sweet spirit.
She will be laid beside her husband in the church yard at Nineveh to await the resurrection morn.
We children thank our neighbors and friends for the kindness during the sickness and death of our darling mother.
