He married Catherine "Katie" Honas on June 10, 1947, in Ellis. She died Feb. 19, 1997.
He was a U.S. military veteran of World War II. He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, Knights of Columbus and Kansas Trappers Association.
Survivors include five sons, Michael Gnad, Hays, David Gnad, Russell, Patrick Gnad, Wichita, and Marvin Gnad and John Gnad Jr., both of Ellis; six daughters, Shirley Dinkel, Victoria, Donna Griffith, Muskogee, Okla., Mary Romey, Hays, Kathy Moravek, Assaria, Martha Nunemaker, Minneapolis, and Grace Benoit, Ellis; three sisters, Anna Doerfler, Hays, Johanna Gnad, Ellis, and Mary Ann Kepka, Great Bend; 36 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wasinger Funeral Chapel, Ellis. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Masses, the church or St. Johns Rest Home Memorial Rose Garden.
