Joseph Edward "Joe", "Ed" Lawrence was the son of William Martin Lawrence and Elizabeth King (not Elizabeth Alzora Clark as some report).

The 1880 U. S. Census shows Joe as living in the Millcreek Township with his older brother, Thomas "Tom" Lawrence. Both are recorded as being farmers and both are single.

The 1900 U.S. Census shows Joe is now married to Rosa and has established their home in Mill Creek Township. The following family information is shown for Joe and his family:
Head J Edward Lawrence M 43 Arkansas
Wife Rosa L Lawrence F 12 Arkansas
Dau Hettie R Lawrence F 4 Arkansas
Dau Oma C Lawrence F 1 Arkansas
Boarder Rebeca J Lawrence F 29 Arkansas
(Rebecca is actually Joe's half-sister, Rebecca Jane Laurence)

The 1910 U. S. Census shows mainly the same information but one thing of note is there is no mention of daughter Effie, who would have been about 1o years old at the time.

The 1930 U.S. Census shows that Joe (recorded as "Edd") is still living in the Mill Creek Township with his wife and son, Baxter who is now 22 years old.

Husband of Rosa Lee Smith (some reports her name as Rosa or Rose Aline Smith) who he married April 21, 1895, in Melbourne, Izard County, Arkansas, officiated by C. C. Haley, Justice of the Peace. He was 38 years old and Rose was 17. The following verified children were born to this union:
Hettie Rhea Lawrence 2/18//1896 - 6/3/1986
(m. John Newton "Newt" Puckett 6/13/1893 - 5/15/1974)
Oma Jane Lawrence 11/12/1899 - 8/7/1991
(m. Clarence Hearl Cooper 2/13/1896 - 12/5/1932)
Edward Baxter Lawrence 12/8/1906 - 5/15/1979
(m. Jewell Mason 8/9/1911 - 4/5/1990)

Some researchers show Joe and Rosa had another child named Effie. The only Effie close to being correct that this researcher has found was a death certificate showing Effie C. Lawrence 9/27/1899 - 4/23/1993 died in Izard County, Arkansas. Verification has not been found to link her positively to this family though some researchers claim she is but have provided no proof to verify this. There is the possibility that there was a child named Effie who died young but again, noting has been found to substantiate this thought.
