At the time of his birth Larry was named Lourence Chaves with no middle name. We have found no evidence of legal name change but the his parents chose to go by the name Shaff when he was about 3 years old and as a teenager he went to live in California near family that spelled it Schaff and from then on Larry spelled the last name Schaff as well.
