Joseph Gates was the 7th child and 6th son of Fred and Elizabeth (Melow) Gates of Plymouth, Michigan. He served our country in the US Army Air Corps 506 PIR 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded a Purple heart, Bronze Star and 4 Combat stars and was injured slighly at Bastogne. His brother Alfred served in the 82nd Airborne. Lived all his life in Wayne County, raised a family and was a wonderful Uncle to many entertaining us with his guitar and song. Many happy family gatherings occurred at his home in Plymouth, MI and many wonderful memories belong to so many of us because of Uncle Joe.
