Mr. Alvarez as a young man worked at a shoe store in Corpus Christi with his brother. Then he became a pipefitter welder and basically worked all over Texas and Oklahoma and in Louisiana in the early 1960s. He worked on the DFW airport when it was being built in early seventies. The most favorite thing he liked to do was to sit on the front porch, have his beer, BBQ and spend time talking with the neighbors. When they were young, he and his wife, Carmen, liked to go dancing and nearly every weekend the family would go see "Granddaddy" in Harlingen.

He is survived by five daughters, Irma Cantu and husband, Joe, of Brownsville, Texas; Rosie Alcantara of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ana Seay and husband, Bill, of Fort Worth, Texas; Janie Rosamond and husband, Bud, of Corpus Christi; Frances Alvarez and husband, Joe, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sons, Frank Alvarez, III and wife Joann of Fort Worth, Texas; Joey O. Alvarez and wife of Pharr, Texas; Arnie Alvarez and wife of San Benito; grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Alvarez was a wonderful person, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was great fun, loving and caring and showed it at all times. I can't imagine anyone ever disliking him... I doubt that ever happened. He and his wife, Carmen, were great hosts and enjoyed their visits and our visits with them and their family immensely. We are so glad to have had the privilege of knowing and loving him and look forward to being in his presence again one day.

Please see the memorials for Carmen Alvarez, Jesus Arnoldo "Arnie" Alvarez, Joey O. Alvarez and Rosie Alvarez Alcantara.
