Jose Osbaldo Alvarez of San Antonio passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Alvarez, his parents, Frank and Carmen Alvarez, his sister, Rosie Alcantara and brother, Arnie Alvarez.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Robert) Gamboa and Claudette (Layton) Peschke. He is also survived by his siblings Frank (JoAnn) Alvarez III, Irma (Joe+) Cantu, Ana (Bill) Seay, Janie (Bud) Rosamond, and Frances (Joe) Alvarez.

Joey graduated from Brownsville Hanna High School in 1963. He attended Pan American University where he played for the Broncs baseball team under Coach Ogletree. He continued with his love of baseball by playing softball in the city league. He was the first inductee into the McAllen Parks and Recreation Softball Slow Pitch Hall of Fame in 1985. He worked for Southwestern Bell telephone company.

Joey, from a close-knit, very loving family, was fun, outgoing and one we all considered "a good Joe". He will never be forgotten by those that knew and love him.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Internment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.

Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Alvarez, Mike Contreras Jr., Mikey Contreras III, Javier Ruiz, Rene Gamboa, and Jorge Rodriguez.
