Martin Shirk Wenger is buried on his farm in Franklin County in the Wenger/Siloam Cemetery, also known as Brinzer-Brainer Cemetery.

Martin was the first Wenger in Franklin County. He had come to America with his parents in 1748, living in what is now the Jonestown area of Lebanon County, until he moved to Franklin County.

In Franklin County, he was a farmer and owned the hemp mill. He was also the first supervisor of Greene Township. Martin, as mentioned above, is buried in Brinzer-Brainer Cemetery in Chambersburg, Pa., on the land which was once his farm. His first wife, Anna, is buried next to him and it is presumed that his 2nd wife (Catherine Funck) is also, since he would have married her there after the death of Anna. No headstone exists for Catherine. Numerous other Wengers and their descendants are buried in the Brinzer-Brainer Cemetery.

Martin's name is listed among the children on the Hans and Anna Wenger Memorial, erected in 1994, at the Wenger Meeting House in Jonestown, Pa. The names of the children of Hans and Anna who are or presumed to be buried at the meeting house are marked with an asterix ( *). This is notated on the bottom of the monument! Because Martin is buried in Brinzer-Brainer Cemetery in Franklin County, his name does not have an * next to it on the memorial in Lebanon County. (Bio by Wanda Nitterhouse, a fifth great grandchild of Martin and Anna.)

(Thank you to Gary Duke for the translation of the words "jahr" and "alt" that are on the gravestone.
