He married a Douthit, they had one child and the mother died either when Sarah was born or soon after, because Francis carried Sarah to her grandmother Douthit on horse back with her in his shirt. (This is the story told for years).

In 1860, Anderson County, Francis Kolb was in household #323 with his father; he was single, age 18. In household #325 was Mary Daniel/Douthit, age 32, born in TN. In her household, her children were: John age 18, Epeline, J.R, Sarah, and George, age 9, all born in Texas. The last person listed in the household was L. Spurrier, female, age 16, and born in Illinois. Francis Marion Kolb married her on 19 Dec. 1860 in Anderson County. She doesn't seem to be the daughter of Mary Douthit because of the specific place of birth. In the next household was Quincy Spurrier, age 24, living with H.J.Y. Kolb and Sarah. How this works out is a puzzle.

Wounded in the war by the same bullet that killed his brother, William Harmon Kolb.

As remembered by L.C. Kolb. I remember when grand daddy (Francis Marion) got his first car. He didn´t know how to drive. So he thought it would be safe to learn how at home driving around a hill. After he got the hang of it he decided he had enough for the day. He headed to the barn to park the car, and the car didn´t stop, he went through the barn and grand daddy hollers "WHOA" just before hitting the house.
