While researching documents for men with the surname of Starr I happened upon this one for Perry Starr and found an interesting letter from the Texas State Archives concerning the death and burial. I have found out from her Great Grandson, Ray Camp, this letter is in reference to Martha Anjaline Kolb Starr.
The letter was addressed to: Mr Geo. Shepperd Comptroller of Public Accounts Austin, Texas.
Dear Sir:
In reply to your letter of January 27, I am enclosing statement of the doctor. I sent you the statement of the undertaker with the application. The reason there is no casket or undertaker service, other than embalming, was that the casket was Home-made and my father, before his death, cut and seasoned the material and made arrangements for the burial space, etc...All material besides lumber, such as interior and exterior, we bought and paid for by me. The cemetery is onlly a few hundred yards from the house so it was not necessary to use a hearse.Trusting that this information might help in closing this claim, I remain Yours very truly, (hand written signature) Perry Starr, Jr.Subscribed to sworn to before me this the day of January, 1938 (Anderson co, Tx Notary Public(written on stationary from South Hassel Funeral Home, Palestine, Texas)
