Staff Sgt. William E. Skivington Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., was known as 'Skip' and graduated from Western High School and he went on to college in Idaho. But in 1967 the Vietnam War weighed heavily on his studies. Rather than wait for the draft, he signed up and shipped out in early 1968 with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. When he first arrived, he was like a sponge wanting to soak it all up. He served as radio operator. Skip went missing in action in Vietnam on Mother's Day 1968. His remains were identified and returned in 2006. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Jan. 23 2007. He is honored on Panel 59E, Row 13 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
