Add PhotosThis is the oldest cemetery in The Pas. Although there are many burials in this cemetery very few are legible and over the years many of the headstones have fallen down and / or have sunk into the ground. It holds some of the earliest residents of the community. It became disused as a primary cemetery after 1915 when Lakeside Cemetery became the new town cemetery out of necessity.

Christ Church (Anglican) has a long history in The Pas, and can be credited in part with why there is settlement at this spot today. It was the first established mission in The Pas, with the Church Missionary Society sending Reverend Henry Budd, a Cree from Norway House to start an Anglican Mission in 1840. The first Christ Church was built in 1846, with the current building being built in 1896 under the direction of Rev. John Hines. It was built a few hundred yards west of where the original Church had been. The furnishings from the original church, which had been constructed by carpenters constructed from the Franklin Relief Expedition headed by Sir John Richardson in the winter of 1847-48, were moved to the new building.

A part of the town's story and those of its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement through roughly 2011 is told in the volume "The Pas - Gateway to Northern Manitoba" and the related volume entitled "The Pas - 100 Years".
Free digital versions of these and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #1259), transcribed by a member or members in 1990 and updated in 2018 and 2020. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
Additionally, many records for Anglican congregations in Manitoba and over part of the territory designated historically as "Rupert's Land" (esp, as bounded on the south by the U.S. border, extending north into the Manitoba Interlake Region past Fairford, with the western boundary reaching into the Pembina Hills and includes Portage la Prairie, eastward the diocese stretches to Sioux Lookout/Atikokan) are now with the Diocese of Rupert's Land and are kept in their offices in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
