Castlehead Church was built in the 1781 and originally called the West Relief Church, to house the graves of those persons deemed to be too sinful to be buried in consecrated ground.
The most famous occupant of the graveyard is Paisley poet Robert Tannahill. Just a few yards away is buried Jessie Tennant, reputedly the Jessie, the Flower O' Dunblane.
Another claim to fame of the Church is that the ancestors of USA President Ronald Reagan were members of the Church and may be buried in the Churchyard.
Unfortunately, due to amalgamation with the Laigh Kirk Church, Castlehead Church closed in early 2011. It's future is still uncertain.
The church, which has been closed for some years, has now been sold and will be converted into luxury apartments. The churchyard cemetery, attached to the church, still has many headstones standing although the cemetery is extremely neglected and overgrown. At this time (2018) there is no information on what the proposal is for the eventual removal of these stones.
