My cousin Eric Erickson gave me the following description of where he remembered visiting a few decades ago the cemetery where our great great grandparents were buried: "Currie Cemetery is situated on the bend of the Saint John River, just above the road that leads to Holmsville Corner on the No. 2 Highway (now No. 105) about 1-1.25 miles above the town of Bath, Carleton Co. New Brunswick. The Cemetery is in a pasture."
Thanks to a recent visit of Jerry Kuntz to the Currie Cemetery, which he sent me better information, and I have updated the map coordinates and the driving directions:
Heading north from Bath on the River Rd Rt. 105, from where the McElroy Rd. leaves East/right, it is .6 miles further north on Rt. 105 to the potato field tractor path on the left, heading downhill between the River Rd and the river. The closest house # opposite across the field is #9909. If traveling from north to the south on the River Rd Rt. 105, after passing the Cahill Rd. on the left, it is also .6 miles further along Rt 105 heading south and the tractor path is on the right heading towards the river. The tractor path is traversable by car, but use caution if conditions are wet, it would be advisable to walk down the hill.
Most of Currie Cemetery was known to be missed in the canvas by George Haywood. Thanks to the photographing of stones by Normdem, it was confirmed that the 14 stones Hayward transcribed and listed in what Hayward named 69 Bath/Beechwood Cemetery was actually Currie Cemetery, but it did not include most of the stones, and those currently unmarked were also missed.
Message from NormDem:
"Mr Haywood did transcribe the Currie Cemetery but he called it "BATH/BEECHWOOD, Kent Parish". When he transcribed it in the early 80's it was overgrown. Since then some locals have cleaned it up and it is maintained now. As I mentioned in my previous message, I transcribed everything in that cemetery last summer and took photos of all the markers. There was one marker that beyond reading and had been broken."
NormDem visited Currie Cemetery and created a video tour of .
A special thanks to those have worked to restore and maintain this cemetery, to those who have photographed the stones and cemetery, and to those who have gone the extra mile to create and update memorials.
