Guldin Memorial Site
Yellow House, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA
Oley Township: From Rt. 562 Yellow House, north on Rt 662 towards Oley .3 mile, then right at fork onto Covered Bridge Rd. The site is situated in field on right, approximately 20 yards from road.
Size: Wall measures 25' x 40'
History: All stones removed. Monument erected and dedicated in 1931 in memory of Frederick Geltbach Guldin 1779-1838 and kin, descendants of Samuel Malacrida Guldin He was one of the earliest settlers in Oley Township whose ancestor of was the Rev. Samuel Koch Guldin, 1664-1745, leader of the churchly pietists in Berne Switzerland, who in 1710 became the spiritual forerunner of the Reformed Church in Pennsylvania. Trust can not be located. (PCC, p. 75 + and MHBA, p. 451 and 1053)
Gravemarkers and inscriptions: Stones removed prior to 1930; 5 fieldstones remain; monument erected to memory of Frederick Guldin & descendants.
Observations: Evaluation by Future Farmers Group of Oley High School May 14, 1997 indicated inside the wall were 5 rows of 7 abreast, laying parallel to Memorial Highway. Outside the wall were many rows of 8 graves on both sides; 19 graves directly in front. Wall cap and gate latch need repairs; gate needs preservation; needs spraying for poison ivy and wild roses.
