In 1865 a mission church in Bear Creek Valley under the title of St. Patrick was founded. A Catholic church was built in 1868 and regular services were held in 1869 about once a month. Non-Catholics also used the church as there was no other place to hold services. The church and cemetery were situated on a hill and could be seen from a considerable distance.

About 1876, Durand became a parish and the Bear Creek Mission was attached to it. Mondovi became a parish by 1896. The Bear Creek Mission was joined to Mondovi and ceased to be a parish after 1900. The building was still on the tax rolls in 1916 - it was moved to Mondovi.

The cemetery has been replotted in "recent" years. The 4-H club that the Pattison children belonged to planted pine trees and made a sign for the cemetery. The latest known burial was of Michael Pattison in 1983.
