A Virtual Cemetery created by Vonnie L Cantrell

BKM Campaign

Unfortunately, much of Summer's work has proven to be inaccurate. K.K. White relied on his work extensively when she wrote her book, "The King's Mountain Men", so that book has proven to be grossly inaccurate. Trish Carden relied heavily on White's book when she compiled her "roster" of BKM participants and posted the roster online without further research. This chain of misinformation and inaccuracies exemplified the way family myths were born. People innocently posted these myths online without due diligence and falsehoods were perpetuated exponentially. It is essential that people question and research further any "information" posted online: just because it is on the computer does not mean that it is accurate. It is imperative at this juncture to correct the misinformation posted online concerning the Battle of King's Mountain as well as other moments in history before the mess becomes so tangled that no one will ever be able to discern the truth. Please reference the Virtual Cemetery entitled "Battle of King's Mountain - Dr. Bobby Gilmer Moss" for those Heroes documented to have fought at BKM. This Virtual Cemetery entitled, "BKM Campaign", includes the Patriots who were supposed to have fought, but did not for a variety of reasons. Some were footmen and didn't arrive in time, some were dispatched on other errands, some were detained by Tories en route. Many Patriots credited with BKM were part of the Campaign and not actually in the battle as established in the testimony of the Patriots in their own words when they testified on their Applications for Revolutionary War Pension.
