When he was 17, in 1780, he lied about his age and joined the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. He was at the Battle of Kings Mountain, where due to his youth, he was assigned the duty of guarding the baggage wagons and prisoners.
During the War of 1812, he again joined the Army. His close friend, a man named Reeder, was critically wounded and asked Thomas to marry his wife and four children, Nancy Reeder. He married her on Dec 29, 1814.
Census 1850 - Madison County, Kentucky Thomas was 88 with Nancy 63, Sylvester 21, and Overton Asbill 15.
