Obert Tosten Musgjerd, 74, of Kenyon, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at his home under the care of hospice and with his family by his side.

Obert was born April 12, 1938 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Tosten and Alma (Odegaard) Musgjerd. He was raised in Holden Township and attended school at Kenyon High School graduating in 1956. Obert served in the Army Reserves. He then went into carpentry where he worked with Clifford Voxland and Don Broin. He was united in marriage to Joan Finnesgard on June 21, 1958 at Gol Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Holden Township for a few years. Obert returned to carpentry work and worked with Paul Hanson. He also worked carpentry with Tom Gill Construction and for John Whipple. Obert semi-retired and continued working on his own.

He was active with Habitat for Humanity and helped build houses in Kenyon and Nerstrand. He loved woodworking, making cabinetry and furniture. He also enjoyed camping at State Parks and for a few years, wintering in Weslaco, Texas with Joan. Most important though was his family.

He is survived by his wife Joan Musgjerd of Kenyon; his daughters Catherine Whipple of Kenyon; Laurie (and David) Feltault of Minneapolis; his son, Tom (and Leanne) Musgjerd of Elk River; ten grandchildren, Katie, Johanna and Jacob Whipple; Peter, Nicole and Sarah Feltault; Owen, Cy, Joseph and Sheldon Musgjerd; two sisters, Alice (and Bob) Adamson of Rochester; Sonia Gunhus of Zumbrota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jason Musgjerd, and son-in-law John Whipple.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Vang Lutheran with The Reverend Terje Hausken officiating. Interment will be in the Little Cannon Cemetery.
