Sonia C. Gunhus, age 82, of Zumbrota died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Dr. Margaret Pleis-Sippola officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, May 8 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family prayer will begin at 7:00 pm on Monday evening. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery.

Sonia Christine Musgjerd was born on April 16, 1935 to Tosten and Alma (Odegaard) Musgjerd in Faribault. She was raised in Kenyon and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1953. Sonia married Arlyn Eugene Gunhus on September 4, 1954 at Vang Lutheran Church. They made their home in Kenyon until 1968 when they bought Zumbrota Floral and Greenhouse, which they operated for 27 years. Sonia continued serving in Zumbrota as a nurse’s aide at the Zumbrota hospital and a home care attendant.
Sonia enjoyed playing bridge, singing in choir, gardening and baking cookies and her famous buttermilk chocolate cake for her children’s and grandchildren’s birthdays. She also enjoyed attending all the concerts and sporting events of her grandchildren, bonus grandchildren and anyone else who called her grandma.
Sonia lived a life of kindness and love and she will be missed by all.

Sonia is survived by her daughter, Christine Grams of Crown; four sons, Jeff (Leda) of Shakopee, Brian (Brenda) of Zumbrota, Randy (Jamie) of Sioux Falls, SD, and David (Julie) of Zumbrota; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Sonia was preceded in death by her husband, Arlyn; brother, Obert Musgjerd; sister, Alice Adamson; sister-in-law, Marion Hogy and son-in-law, Rod Grams.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
