Son of John Melvin Bannister and Susan Peake.


He married Ella Rhoda Avery Webster 18 Oct 1908 in Roxbury, Vt.


He married Ione Bates 3 Jan 1868. They had three children.


John Bannister died Thursday at his home on the Bannister Farm on the Bull Run Road in Roxbury. He had been in poor health for several years but the immediate cause of death was bronchitis.

Mr. Bannister was born in Brookfield Jan 12th, 1873. For many years he had lived in the town of Roxbury. Mr. Bannister was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in Company C. 9th Vermont Regiment, December 28th, 1863 and was discharged December 11th 1865.

In 1868 on January 3rd, Mr. Bannister was united in marriage to Ione Bates, to this union was born three children, Mable, wife of E. E. Davis, Clara and Langdon all of who live at home. Mrs. Bannister died in 1903.

Aside from the one son and two daughters, the deceased is survived by one granddaughter, Lillian Bannister and one sister Mrs. Lena Chandler of Montpelier and four brothers, Orange Bannister of Williamstown, Clarence of Randolph, Sanford and Marshall of Brookfield.

Mr. Bannister was a public spirited man and had held many town offices, he also represented Roxbury, in the Legislature of 1906. The Bannister farm in one of the best in this locality and Mr. Bannister was a man who had a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Burke pastor of the Methodist church of Northfield officiated. Interment was in the cemetery at East Roxbury. The bearers were R. C. Diemer, William Webster, Andrew Ladd and N. W. Peake.
