Miss Abbieville Handlin was born on June
16, 1837 in Temperanceville, Pennsylvania
at the age of sixteen years she moved to
Ohio with her parents Reverend and Mrs.
E.T. Handlin. She became a member of the
Methodist church when a very young girl,
her father being a minister of the Methodist
Episcopal church.
In 1865 she was married to Oliver Perry
Morton. Here she lived five years, where
three of her children were born. In 1870
she came with her husband and children
to Linn County, Kansas, where three more
children were born. One daughter passed
away at the age of seventeen years.
In 1888 they moved to Kansas City, MO.
Here her husband died in the year 1893,
this being her home for thirty-four years.
On March 22, 1922 she came to live with
her son, O.P. Morton, where she died on
March 6, 1924 at the age of four score,
six years, eight months and nineteen days.
She is survived by her children, four boys
and one girl; G.L. Morton, Topeka, Kansas
Mrs. W.N. Knox, Kansas City, Mo., E.T.
Morton, Irving, Kansas, O.P. Morton, of
Bigelow, Kansas, R.N. Morton, Traer,
Kansas, all of whom were with her, in her
last hour.
She is also survived by one sister, Miss
Cassie Handlin, Huntington, West Virginia
twelve grandchildren and six great-grand
children.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist
Church in Bigelow on March 8, with the
Reverend J.R. Prugh officiating.
