Jimmy Leroy Baker, 73, of Perkins, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, in Stillwater. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Norman Richmond officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home.
Jim was born in Jennings to Charley and Frances Baker July 24, 1934, and attended school in Ripley and Glencoe.
Jim was husband to Opal and father to April Baker of Sherman, Texas and Autumn and husband, Tim Williams, of Chicago. He was grandpa to Kirstin Avants-Baker and Kaleb, Hannah, Micah, Imani, Phoebe and Malachi Williams.
Jim's brothers and sisters are Jack Baker and wife, Nancy, of Virginia Beach, Va., Jerry Baker and wife, Roberta, of Glencoe, Rick Baker and wife, Sally, of Jay, Marjorie Walters and husband, Leon, of Stillwater and Shirley House and husband, Ronnie, of Henderson, Ky., as well as sister in-law, Caroline Magness of Perkins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Bill, Johnny, John and Bob Baker and two sisters, Charlene Dean and Joann Grey.
He was uncle George to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Everyone who knew Jim quickly developed their own rapport with him. There are endless tales of teasing and laughter and there was never any doubt that Jim was a cherished friend to all.
Jim was an avid fisherman who caught many large fish including some prize winning catfish. He enjoyed hunting elk in Colorado and this season while hunting locally, bagged a trophy buck with 13 points. He was well known for his smoked bbq and secret sauce and tall tales.
