Edgar "Ed" Gant, 83, of San Antonio, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in a San Antonio hospital after a month long illness.
Born July 20, 1898 in Victoria, he was a former resident of Kingsville.
He was a retired brakeman for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad and was a Baptist.
Funeral arrangements were pending with Barefield Funeral Home of Victoria.

EDGAR GANT
Funeral services for Edgar "Ed" Gant, 83, of San Antonio, who died Tuesday in a San Antonio hospital after a month-long illness, will be held at noon Saturday at St. Peter's Baptist Church in Victoria with the Rev. Isaac Moore officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Barefield Funeral Home of Victoria.
Walk-in visitation at the funeral home will be held from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Della Gant of Victoria; a daughter, Mrs. Mamie Duncan of Houston; two sons, Elvin Gant Sr. of San Antonio and Edgar Gant Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Josephine Washington of Victoria; three stepsons, Jim Cook, Walter Cook and Jerome Cook, all of Victoria; a sister, Mrs. Paralee Koonce of Victoria; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Gant, Willie Gant, Edwin Gant, Nevell Hill, Kenneth Cook and Henry Gant.
